2010 Reunion Report

The first ever Reunion for St. Joseph 's, Placentia Bay was held Friday, August 6 - Sunday, August 8, 2010. It was a couple of grey foggy days but the weather did not dampen the spirits of those who were in attendance.

Friday night started out with Opening Ceremonies ~ Mr. Pat Barron officially cut the cake to kick off the reunion festivities and Mr. Neil Picco officially opened the "Picco's Meadow Gathering Place" by cutting the ribbon. A plaque was unveiled signifying the very generous donation of land by the Picco Family. The evening quickly turned in to a kitchen party when Derrick, Duane and Robbie pulled out their guitars & accordians. Mr. Pat Barron and Mr. Den Lake, accompanied by Duane Barron also sang a few gool ol' traditional Placentia Bay songs for the crowd.

Saturday morning's Scavenger Hunt was great fun, as well as Saturday afternoon's garden party. Ambrose Hickey and Cyril Synard were on hand Saturday night to provide toe-tapping tunes for the Reunion Dance...with a small break for fireworks. Ambrose's Reunion song was a hit with the crowd!

St. Joseph's was blessed to have Father Ray Earle visit on Sunday afternoon and perform a beautiful service and blessing in the newly constructed hall. The Reunion closed out with a bobber race in Picco's Brook, followed by bingo with lots of cash prizes! By all accounts, Augusut 6-8 was a great weekend in St. Joseph's, Placentia Bay!

My Grandfather came from St.Joseph's.His name was Tom Lake and He had a Sister named Betsy Hawco who was I think,a Midwife and an Accordion Player. His Wife was From around Burnt Island and Her name was Mary Ann Deer... I'd Love to go to One of Those Reunions sometime and see what it's like and to meet any relatives I may still have.!!!!! Great to be able to read this and see the pics,,,we can see a good time was had by all you mentioned,we were so sorry to have missed this re union,,however we are looking forward to perhaps visiting St joseph,s soon,as we will be in NFLD Oct 13th for a couple of weeks,,

Was not not abble to make it to the reunion , hope you all had a wonderful time. my best memories were when i was there by mtself . no bullshit and no fighting to deal with .

Yes Donna...It was a great weekend....snow wouldnt have dampened the spirits!

I guarantee it wont be 16 years between visits again............
