February 2012 Newsletter

Feb 7, 2012

Hello Everyone,

Our apologies, it’s been a while since we had a newsletter go out, things have been pretty busy for myself and the other committee members during the past year. However, we are very excited about getting together and planning again.

One important thing that keeps coming up at our meetings and requires some immediate attention is renovations to the Community Centre. The Centre is the heart of our Community. Over the years we all worked very hard to get it to where it is today and we need to ensure it stays in as good as shape possible. I’m sure everyone feels a sense of pride and would like to contribute to the upkeep.

The following are some problem areas that need to be taken care of this summer if possible:

  • replace 36” door and door box at the back entrance
  • replaced floor in front of door
  • construct stairway up to the Centre and link to existing deck
  • Eventually the windows will have to be replaced – this could be done next year

With these repairs in mind we would like to solicit a one-time donation to go towards the Centre’s upkeep so we can take care of maintenance.

We would appreciate it if you pass this request along to your adult children, brothers, sisters, etc as we only have a small group to solicit for funds. We would like to have your donations to us as soon as possible in order to see which repairs we can tackle this summer.

On June 15, 2012 (Father’s Day weekend) we have booked the Star Hall for a concert and kitchen party. We hope to have a couple of skits included in the concert so we’ll be calling on a few actors. Anyone who would like to volunteer, please give us a call. We don’t usually get very many men to play in a skit so if you guys want to have an opportunity, this is it. All are invited.

If anyone would like to offer a “gift” for draws during the concert please feel free to contact us. Maybe you still have a Christmas gift or extra bottle you would like to donate.

Apparently, there has been a lot of interest expressed as to when the next “Big Time” will be held on Merasheen. There is a Placentia Come Home Year this summer in July and Fr. William Hann has set August 11th for a Papal blessing (see email attachment). We decided to shoot for July 2013 for the next “Big Time” this will allow time for planning etc. We’ll make more information available as the time draws near.

Also, please keep in mind Father William Hann’s blessing as per email below as he requires feedback for preparation.

On Saturday, August 11 we extend a special invitation to our living seniors ages 75 and up to gather with us on Merasheen Island. We want to honor your legacy and thank you for giving us life, roots, faith and pride of place. Fr. William Hann would like to get a papal blessing done for our ancestors. If anyone would like to get one for their parent please email him at The cost is $45 for each blessing. The day will include games, ring toss, mass at 4pm followed by pot luck and an evening of song and no doubt dance.
We look forward to seeing one and all on the Aug 10 to 12, 2012 weekend on the sacred ground of Merasheen Island.
Abundant blessings
Fr. William

We would also like to congratulate Pat Ennis and all the people who donated their time to the War Memorial Monument constructed last summer. Another great job everyone. It looks fantastic and is a beautiful place to give respect to the Veterans.

Donations can be sent to Doreen at the address below or you can give it to one of the Committee Members.
