As part of the Placentia 350th Anniversary celebrations, come to enjoy “Discover Placentia,” an event that welcomes authors or speakers for a reading and/or discussion.

Hosted by the Placentia Area Historical Society, as well as by Placenta 350, Inc., the sixth event welcomes author and research professor Peter Pope.

The author of books such as "Fish into Wine: The Newfoundland Plantation in the Seventeenth Century" and "The Many Landfalls of John Cabot," Peter Pope is a University Research Professor and former Head of the Department of Archaeology at Memorial University.

Join Peter Pope as he takes a look at how the migratory fishery worked and how the traditional first-come first served Admiral system pushed fishers to develop links with particular Newfoundland regions. He’ll take a close look at the outcome of these swirling historical currents in Placentia Bay and along the rest of Newfoundland’s south coast, in the period before Great Britain claimed complete control of Newfoundland in 1713.

  • Location: Placentia Bay Cultural Arts Centre
  • Day: 8 November, 2012
  • Time: 7pm
  • Tea, coffee, juice and sweets will be served
  • Free admission
