Royal Canadian Legion

September 3, 2014 marked the 75th Anniversary of the declaration of the Second World War. During that long conflict, 25,343 merchant ships, with over 164 million tons of cargo on-baord, sailed from North America to Britain on the Atlantic Ocean. The Canadian Merchant Navy alone lost one seafarer in eight out of the 12,000 who faithfully served their country.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 Placentia will be holding a Merchant Navy Veterans Day of Remembrance Ceremony at 11:00 am on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Legion Memorial in Placentia. The ceremony will include a wreath laying in honour of the contributions of those who served.

All members of the community are invited to attend.
